Dragonfly Ranch Healing Arts Center    Healing Arts Retreat

About the Dragonfly

Story from Common Ground Magazine, On the Path, Winter 2002

In my growing up years in Southern California, I lived in a love-filled  home that my mother built with her mother. It seemed only appropriate  for my mother to help me build my home in Hawaii, now The Dragonfly Ranch:  Healing Arts Center. Creating this nurturing environment while honing my healing skills has been my life's work.

When I turned 30, I was gifted two extraordinary blessings: (1) to be the Big Island’s first lomilomi massage student of world renown kahuna haha, Aunty Margaret Machado, and (2) to become the steward of  beautiful acreage in the middle of the ancient "Healing Triangle" on Hawaii's Kona Coast. My dear mother/best friend helped me build my unique home here until she was diagnosed with life-threatening cancer in 1978. Together we decided to travel around,  experiencing holistic treatments at several healing centers in and out of the US.  While I seriously studied diet and nutrition, I gave my mother lomilomi massage regularly. We did a series of cleansing programs together, fasting and doing colonics for several days at a time. Miraculously, and much to the surprise of the doctors, my mother cured herself. She then continued to help me with my education in the healing arts while we developed the Dragonfly Ranch into a healing center.*

In 1980, I had a spiritual awakening at the Temple of Abydos on "The  Journey of Transformation" with Jean Houston. I got a distinct message  that my home was to be used as a center for growth and transformation,  especially for healers and creative artists. When I returned from Egypt,  I expanded my SwissFamilyRobinson-style home into a 5 bedroom Bed & Breakfast.

One of my greatest joys is having the opportunity to share with my guests the amazing healing experience of playful dolphins that like to  swim with us in nearby bays. These Spinner dolphins, like my Pomeranians, beam transformative love energy.

After learning another powerful healing modality with the Flower Essence Society in Nevada City, I experienced a "command dream" about making  Hawaiian orchid flower essences. As an agricultural experiment I built a rainbow cathedral "Illuminarium" to grow these orchids interactively with movement therapy. I created a colorful labyrinth for centering and  focusing positive energies.  This dream I am still working at manifesting has to do with relating to the orchids, elevating our consciousness as we create powerful orchid flowers that can then be made into essences.

While crafting my gigantic “tree house,”  I learned how to work in harmony with the land, combining permaculture with ancient Hawaiian "Aloha Aina"--love of the land. Lately  I have felt more "on purpose," using the Dragonfly to fulfill it's potential  as a center for sharing the Aloha message while hosting symposiums, retreats, workshops, and weddings as well as providing a safe haven for individuals seeking peace, creativity, greater health and spiritual awareness.

Here in South Kona near the ancient "Place of Sanctuary," the true Hawaiian lifestyle has been preserved. Hand and hand with Hawaiians,  we work together to protect the Honaunau Valley from over development while respectfully maintaining the Spirit of Aloha.

Having received one to one training in the art of Lomilomi (a sacred rejuvenation  treatment),  in recent years I was given the added blessing from Kahuna "Aunty Margaret" Machado to teach this art to others. Gratefully perpetuating this ancient art is an important mission in my life.

After spending more than 3 decades in Hawaii, I deeply appreciate its people and culture.  It is my sincere belief that sharing Hawaiian wisdom, we can potentially all realize that we are the Ohana (family) of the World. I pray daily for assistance in this realization for us all.

I am open to having people of impeccable integrity assist me with my work at the Dragonfly. As a harmonious family, a few select people join me apprenticing at the Dragonfly, having fun together while learning from and serving others.

Welcoming people into my Hawaiian hideaway and my heart is the path  I have chosen with Aloha.

*(My mother remained cancer free the rest of her life, dying of a stroke. She requested to have her ashes buried at the Dragonfly Ranch where her nurturing presence is felt.)

Community Room

We love making music and have instruments for people to use when they visit

Enjoy our eco-spa on the sunny Kona Coast of Hawaii's Big Island where Aloha abounds. Ever dream of having the wild, friendly dolphins visit you while snorkeling in the pristine bays nearby, experiencing the natural beauty of old Hawai'i, diving and snorkeling in world-class pristine waters, meeting Kahunas, or using Hawaiian healing herbs like awa or noni?

Would you like to "tune up" your health, learning alternative healing methods, practicing the five Tibetan sacred rites, tai chi/yoga/chi gung, or meditating while walking our labyrinth -- all in the spirit of having FUN?

Or perhaps you want to have a special wedding--or you just got married and want to have a romantic honeymoon alone with your beloved. We gladly arrange for pampered privacy (including "The Royal Treatment") and will assist in creating exquisitely memorable weddings and renewal vows.

Whether you prefer privacy or the feeling of being included as family, you are cordially invited to The Dragonfly Ranch: Healing Arts Retreat -- designed especially for Healthy Pleasures.

Blessed with an ideal location, this peaceful country estate is near the ancient Place of Refuge National Historical Park and five beautiful bays. The Kona Coast is an ocean-lover's paradise (with Spiner dolphins, tropical fish, coral, turtles and whales) -- where people are full of Aloha and time is slow and easy. The elevation is ideal (about 700 feet) and the temperature is almost always 72 degrees with lots of sunshine, very little wind, and limited rain.

Free spirited adventurers may wish to attend or lead workshops/retreats at the Dragonfly.
Individuals, families or groups are invited to come here and relax, rejuvenate and restore creative energies.

Upscale Swiss-Family-Robinson style indoor/outdoor expansion mansion...

Offering an exotic taste of the un-spoiled Hawaii, this Healing Arts Retreat is a tropical eco and agtourism center perfect for small groups as well as Bed and Breakfast guests. In our upscale Swiss-Family-Robinson style indoor/outdoor expansion mansion, we have three unique suites and two rooms--all for nature-lovers.* We offer a rich experience of living "inside the outdoors."

Those of us here at the Dragonfly are having a good time exploring our creative talents, sharing common goals, music, laughter and love. We welcome you to join us. We wish for our guests to feel comfortably "at home."

We invite interested guests to learn about local culture/agriculture and Hawaiian healing arts.

Perhaps you want to get your hands in the soil helping us develop a self-sustaining garden using ancient Hawaiian agricultural practices combined with permaculture. Permaculture Aloha Aina (love of the land) teaches us to give to the land before taking from the land.

For those who wish to swim with dolphins, we gladly guide you to nearby bays where we familiarize you with respectful "dolphin etiquette."

P.S. The Dragonfly isn't for everyone. Click here if you think the Dragonfly might not be right for you. Click here even if you think the Dragonfly IS for you.
